Kasich Announces Appointment to Cleveland Municipal Court

Today Governor John R. Kasich announced the appointment of James H. Hewitt, III of Cleveland (Cuyahoga Co.) to serve as a judge on the Cleveland Municipal Court.

COLUMBUS – Today Governor John R. Kasich announced the appointment of James H. Hewitt, III of Cleveland (Cuyahoga Co.) to serve as a judge on the Cleveland Municipal Court. Hewitt will assume office on March 1, 2015, and must run in November 2015 to retain the seat for a full term commencing January 1, 2016. Hewitt is replacing Judge Anita Laster Mays, who has been elected to the Eighth District Court of Appeals.

Hewitt received his bachelor of arts in economics from Macalester College and his juris
doctorate from Cleveland State University’s Cleveland-Marshall College of Law. Previous experience includes roles as the principal in Hewitt Law LLC, James H. Hewitt Co. LPA and Coaxum and Hewitt, LPA. He has also served as the law director of the City of East Cleveland and a bar examiner for the Ohio Board of Bar Examiners.

Hewitt has been the president of the Cuyahoga County Law Directors Association and
is a member of the Cleveland and Norman S. Minor Bar Associations. He is also a deacon and legal counsel for Olivet Institutional Baptist Church.
