Jury Commission FAQs

• I received a jury summons in the mail, what do I do next?

  Complete the juror questionnaire on the back of the summons and return it within seven to ten days.   Please follow the instructions before reporting by calling in to see if you have to serve. If so, be sure to keep the bottom portion of your summons that contains your date of service, juror  number and pool sequence number.  You must bring this document with you on your date of service. 

• Am I paid for jury service? How much?

  Yes.  Jurors are paid $20 per day for jury service.  Payments are processed at the end of your final day of service.  You should receive your check within two to three weeks. 

• I received a jury summons, but I no longer live in Cleveland.

  Mail (to the address on the front of your summons) or fax proof of your new address such as a copy of your photo ID/driver’s license or a current utility bill, along with your completed juror questionnaire.  Your name will be removed from our database of  registered voters and you will be listed as a non resident.

• Where can I park?

  You may park at the Huntington Park Garage on Lakeside Avenue across from the Justice Center. Parking is also available on West Third between St. Clair and Lakeside Avenue and near Cleveland Browns Stadium.  The cost for parking ranges from approximately $5 to $15 per day.

• What if I am unable to serve?

  If you are requesting an excusal, deferral or disqualification, you must submit written documentation in support of your request; such as a doctor’s note, a note from your employer, or proof of  vacation.  The document should be addressed to the Jury Commission and can be faxed to 216-420-8014 or mailed to the Jury Commission using the return address on your summons.  NO EXCUSES ARE ACCEPTED OVER THE PHONE.

• I am past my ten day period to return my questionnaire. What should I do?

  You may fax your questionnaire to the Jury Commission at 216-420-8014 or you may bring with you completed when you report for service.

• I am a convicted felon; do I still have to serve?

  According to the Ohio Revised Code (ORC) 2961.01 you are considered incompetent to serve as a juror if convicted.  If you are accused but not yet convicted you are competent to serve on as a juror.
